Comet neowise over Basel plus look towards Basel from Birsfelden: My images of Week 30 2020
In this segment, I show the images which I posted this week on Instagram – along with some background information. I truly appreciate a like and a comment, if you like what you see consider following me @twj.st. In short: The highlight may be an image of the comet Neowise over the city of Basel, but then I have another shot above the Birsfelden Powerstation at sunset.
Twjst.photo Week as a Video Summary
I’m creating a weekly video summary of my photographic week on my Facebook page. Head over there to check it out. As soon as it is published and I find the time, I will embed it below.
Guardian Owls
Part 2 or the summer sunset images around the power plant in Birsfelden. I learned the whole complex was built by Hans Hofmann in the 50s (thanks for the comment @waitasecondpls). Quite an interesting read on what his vision was and what was driving the design choices for those buildings. Not sure whether he would agree with me, but those little buildings can be seen as guardian owls watching out for anything coming down the Rhine. Comet NEOWISE over Basel
Of course, I had to try as well. After a colleague posted an image of Neowise above Basel I went to the minster and tried to find it. At first, I could not see it, but looking at my camera it was a lot easier. My equipment is not really up to such a task, I basically had the choice of either underexposing the comet or overexposing the city. Want to take a guess which one I picked? I may have to get some graduated filters at some point to cope with situations like this.
The second image is a close up using my 70-200 + 2x extender. It’s a single shot and the best what comes out of my camera. I have literally no experience in astrophotography, maybe I should give it a try?
