Landscape Photography at Night
This landscape image combines a couple of rather unusal traits. Shot at night with a telephoto lens during a supermoon and with sahara dust in the atmosphere. While you cannot see the moon in this photograph, it’s light is what’s illuminating the scene. It also brings forward the orange tones of the sand in the air. The rock formation in the foreground is called “Ankeballe”, a true swiss german expression if I ever heard one. It translates roughly to “clump of butter”, which supposedly is connected to a local saga.
What makes this shot stand out? The shape of the rock with it’s trees makes a lot of people think of Asia, layered landscapes gives a sense of depth and the coincidental presense of Sahara dust in the sky leads to a nice color contrast.
